Glass, PET, or Can? Packaging for Exported Preserves

Glass offers premium shelf appeal, superb barrier properties, and heat resistance for retorts. It’s recyclable but heavier and more fragile, so freight and breakage risk must be managed with stronger cartons and pallets.

PET is lightweight and impact-resistant, reducing transport costs and shrink. With modern oxygen-barrier grades, it works well for many pickles and sauces. It’s ideal where safety, weight limits, or e-commerce matter—but may need careful heat treatment specs.

Cans provide maximum protection, stackability, and efficiency for foodservice or industrial sizes. They’re highly recyclable, fast to palletize, and stable in harsh routes. For retail storytelling, labels and lithography help offset the lower transparency versus glass.
